Individual assinment of leveraging information technology for business Essay

Individual assinment of leveraging information technology for business advantage - Essay Example Less time is wasted with e-tickets for both consumers and producers. E-tickets save many ticket-issuing steps and thus the process speed is faster for every passenger. Airlines not only save paper ticket costs but also operating costs. Travel agents also save time by skipping the process of printing paper tickets for the consumers. Consumers, on the other hand, spend less time waiting in line for check-ins. One only needs to provide a photo ID at the airport to get the boarding pass directly, without any busy paper work. Alternatively, and more efficiently, one can simply do advance check in online at home and print the boarding pass on the day of travel. For business people on tight schedules, this would be extremely convenient. They would no longer have to worry about having not enough time to wait in long lines to do check-in. Also, with unusual yet unpreventable circumstances such as airline strikes, airlines and travellers are better off with interlining e-tickets: no more delay ed flights or significant loss of profit during strikes (e-ticketing n.d para 2). It also does away with the fear of one’s ticket being lost or stolen. Like paper ticketing, e-ticketing is a way of documenting a sale, both for the passenger and for the airline. But rather than paper, the e-ticket uses a database to track the sale and use of tickets – and the database is stored and updated by the validating airline. All subsequent ticket transactions – including refunds, exchanges, check-in, void and settlement – involve this holding database. Those airlines not adapting to e-ticketing by the end of 2007 risk a number of serious disadvantages. They will not be able to sell through key third-party e-commerce providers (such as Expedia and Travelocity), they will be at a competitive disadvantage as a result of the continued high costs associated with paper tickets and settlement, and they will be more exposed to paper ticket fraud (The Smart Route to

Biography of Emmanuel Kant Essay Example for Free

Biography of Emmanuel Kant Essay Known by many in the field as the father of modern philosophy, Immanuel Kant questioned many of the assumptions held in his day. He focused much of his work on the realm of human thought, understanding, and potential. His ideas about observation, learning, and experientialism set the precedent for all philosophers who followed him. Born in the early 1720s, Kant lived in what was known as East Prussia (now a part of Kaliningrad, Russia). There, he was able to secure a teaching position for nearly ten years when he began working at Konigsberg University. He would remain a part of their staff for nearly five decades contributing to the rise and popularity of philosophy of the day. Not much more is known about Kant’s earlier life. He did go on to having several of his pieces published, although none were an exact autobiography. In his Critique of Pure Reason, he discussed and raised interesting points about human knowledge. Instrumental on Kant’s own ideas was the work of philosopher David Hume, who agreed that human experience could be used for understanding, but that it should not be used to explain every phenomena we encounter in nature or in the real world. Kant built upon this idea. He stated that new experiences could be formulated based on past experiences because it our past that helps us learn about our future. He believed that the human mind organized events and ideas into categories that could be accessed later to determine how we might react in a certain experience. He came up with the word to describe the paradox of understanding: noumena. Kant’s own arguments about the existence of God were also not well accepted at his time. He believed that man could not rationalize God because it was not something that we had experienced before. In other words, we might be able to attribute certain characteristics to Him, but it is ultimately limited by our own human understanding of the universe. In essence, we could never come close to truly understanding who God is and predict what He is going to do. |[pic] |[pic] |[pic] |[pic] |[pic] |.

The Danger of Texting and Driving

The Danger of Texting and Driving Texting and driving is a very dangerous thing to do. So many things can happen on the road that many people are not aware of. Keep that phone out of sight when driving, or turn it off so it wont be a distraction. Lets say your friend is driving and she constantly receives text messages, of course shes going to want to look at her phone and text back to whoever but she doesnt realize the minute she looked down to her phone she passed a red light and gets hit by a truck. All because her phone kept vibrating and she couldnt wait till she got home. Attempting to read or write text messages while operating a motor vehicle is extremely dangerous for everyone on the road. Texting while driving involves a person taking his or her eyes off the road and momentarily ignoring the task of controlling the vehicle. Allowing this to happen even for a few seconds can be disastrous. It all makes sense because we shouldnt have to text and drive and its always going to be a very risky thing to do. Alway s try to be safe on the road and for the others safety. More than one hundred texts a day is ridiculous, how can teenagers spend so much time on there phone and not get bored? well, from the research that has been made many teenagers dont even pay attention in school because there phone is a distraction tool. Many of them just go home and stay on there phone and be on social media doing whatever they do best. But, what people dont realize is what they say/do behind their phone screen? Most of the time teens are just texting about regular things that go on in life but thats not always. Texting can go in many directions. Such as cyber bullying, teens tend to do that a lot in example twitter, thats a big one. He/she can get a direct message or a public tweet and it can be harrassing but the person that is provoking it continues with the tweets and its getting out of hand. Nobody is trying to stop him/her and its making the victim very upset. With those many tweets/direct messages something bad can happen. So please stop the cyberbullying on whatever social media. Because nobody would ever want that happening to them so it is not okay to do it to other people to make yourself feel better. Make sure your teen understands that it isnt acceptable to spread rumors or bully someone through texting or any other means. Remind your teen that any text message he or she sends can be saved or forwarded to anyone else, so its important to use good judgment with every message. Its explaining how cyberbullying is not okay in many ways. As in, sending a lot of harassing or rumors about the person on either social media or through phone number. It is never okay to say hurtful things about the person and continue on spreading it around or even texting others about it constantly. So stop the continuous messaging about them and be yourself and let it go, dont draw yourself in to dram that isnt necessary. So, how can your teen know how many text messages are too many? Just by overdoing it makes him/her look bad. And this is how you can get super annoyed with a lot of messages just popping up on your phone. Two people are in a relationship but they are really mad at each other and there speaking terms arent so understanding to one another so the girl is being very over dramatic and keep sending ten messages at a time before the guy can even answer to one of the texts. But, what the girl doesnt know is that he is trying to help his mother with cleaning but with the girl sending so many text messages he isnt able to do what he is being told by his mom, so hes having to stop what he is doing to answer back to his girlfriend before she gets even more mad. And the guy is trying to explain that he cant text at the moment but the girl doesnt believe him and he gets super mad and says that he is done with her. And now the girl wishes she never over texted him every five minutes and she just de stroyed her own relationship. For many teens, texting is an essential way to communicate. A lack of maturity can get your teen into trouble when texting, though. Help your teen understand and avoid the risks associated with texting. As if over texting was the only thing that is ruining everything, because it practically is. Just try to talk it out in person and not be so crazy about sending so many text messages because it can ruin something you dont want it to ruin in many cases not just a relationship. Dont let texting interfere with your sleep. Youre always going to need sleep no matter what and texting shouldnt be the reason to stay up. Although many teens might want to stay up to text with their friends they are losing their sleep and it causes them to start falling asleep at school when they need to be awake or they start being super lazy when they dont have enough sleep. So as a teenager he/she will always have there phone at night to text with friends and what not, but its a school night and they have a game the following day and they arent rested enough. So how is he/she going to have a great performance at their game and how are they going to make it at school not having enough sleep? Well, the answer is they are not going to do well that day because lack of sleep constantly texting at night isnt going to help the teen get better the next day, its just going to make it harder for them to focus and play. Sleep is very important, always stay energized. Some research also sug gests that screen time before bedtime interferes with sleep. As a result, teens can experience lost sleep, difficulty falling asleep, poor sleep quality and daytime sleepiness. People should love to sleep, do not waste time to sleep to stay up with friends texting or playing video games. Sleeping is very important and its so unhealthy not getting at least eight hours of sleep, so turn off the phone and go to bed early to get a good night rest. Teens shouldnt be texting their friends, family more than twice because you dont know what situation they are in, so be patient and relax. Therefore, more than three text messages is way too many just let the person answer back and you would be good to go. Works Cited 800 texts in one week? Diaries of 3 smartphone addicts. Chilly Morning. Essay -- essays research papers

There is a place where the chill of the morning air cuts through a person like a knife. To stand up would take every muscle of the body, but even that would take too much energy. Thus, one sits upon the icy pond called the floor. Is this a dream? Somewhere a voice answers that it is more like a nightmare, so one just makes the most of it.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  All around the sights and sounds of the morning begin to take affect. Very few people are there in the beginning. They all are in a sleepy haze, yearning to be back in the sweet comforts of their own bed. There they can wrap themselves in a blanket of never ending warmth and dream a never ending dream. In the harsh reality of the morning, they are here in the chilly morning air. There are very few sounds in the twilight of the day. All that one can hear is the buzz of what is the beginning of talking. Far off there is the sound of an early morning basketball game. There the players can hear the cheering of the crowd of a championship ball game in its fourth quarter. Will they win? Who knows?   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  There is some strange aroma that starts to wake the senses. In a nearby room there is a fresh, hot pot of coffee brewing. It begins to wake the senses and the mind, however, one still would rather be at home in bed. An awful stench begins to take the place of the coffee. The smell of breakfast begins to drift down from the kitchen. It has the aroma of mom cooking scrambled eggs. One begins to ...

Israel and Judah

Israel and Judas God trusted two men to deliver His message to the tribe of Judas and the children of Israel they were the prophets Isaiah and Jeremiah. (Mailer, 2006) Both of them got caught up In there on sinful acts and disobeyed God. God was angry and punished the two for their wrong doings. It was though the consequences from God that the two prophets begin to see how important and beneficial It was to them and to the lives of Christians that Gods message get delivered. The message God gave Prophet Isaiah a message to stress the importance of how they needed to repent of their wicked ways and come back to God.Because of the love Isaiah had for his people he was compelled to warn them and save them from punishment from God directly. Isaiah core message was to inform his people that only God can save them, He is our King the only God we are to worship. The message God gave Jeremiah the Prophet was to warn thousand be cautious of fake prophets. Judas started to believe what the fak e prophets were saying over Jeremiah. They soon saw that everything Jeremiah was trying to tell them happened. (Willis, 2011). The message Jeremiah delivered said the Lord has been giving me his messages, and I have passed them long to you all faithfully but time and time again none of you are listening to me (Holy Bible, 2001). God Instructed Jeremiah to warn Judas to stop living wicked lives and participating in evil doings but they didn't take heed to his warnings. God tried to warn Israel many times about their sins by sending those prophets. Each time they did not listen and were blatantly disobedient. Judas and Israel did things like killing babies and offering them up as sacrifices; they worshiped false idols, and participated in sexual immorality. They would not stop there sinful acts nor did they see any wrong in what they were doing and repent. This made God so angry that He allowed another nation with deadly weapons and soldiers that were more powerful than they to war aga inst them. The nation God sent took everything including food, livestock even their sons and daughters. This nation destroyed their entire towns. God was out raged by Israel and Judo's sins. He was angry they had the desire to worship other Idols, Israel and Judas brought the wrath of God on them.Since Israel and Judas refused to obey God, He said would summon all the armies under King Nebuchadnezzar to put them all to end completely. God was sending His wrath upon Israel and Judas to punish them for their sins. He was sentencing them to seventy years as captives. Isaiah had a strong desire to help stop the sins of his people. He felt that the people of Israel had become a sinful nation as a whole. He believes that Israel left God and dishonored Him by their constant and deliberate disobedience to Him. Isaiah said that because of the sins of Israel it caused them to go in a direction opposite from God.Prophet Jeremiah warned Judas they should repent for their sins or God would send a curse upon them, they would be destroyed and turned Into slaves. God gave word to the prophets telling them that â€Å"Because Masses king of Judas has done these abominations (he has acted more wickedly than all the Amorists who were before him, and has also made Judas sin with his Idols), therefore thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘Behold, I am bringing such calamity upon Jerusalem Jerusalem the measuring line of Samara and the plummet of the house of ABA; I will wipe Jerusalem as one wipes a dish, wiping it and turning it upside down.So I will forsake the remnant of my inheritance and deliver them into the hand of their enemies; and they shall become victims of plunder to all their enemies, because they eve done evil in my sight, and have provoked me to anger since the day their fathers came out of Egypt, even to this day' (Holy Bible, 2001). All God wanted from Israel and Judas was from them to ask for fogginess from their sins and come back to Him. (Willis, 2011). Jer emiah 30:1 declares ‘l will also bring them back to the land that I gave to their forefathers and they shall possess it. (Holy Bible, 2001). Jeremiah was told by God that He was sending a nation to attack Jerusalem. God also wanted the name nation to attack Israel, but when then had seen what happened to Jerusalem hey repented so God intervened and they all came back to God and received Him as their Lord and Savior. All of these happening were apart of Gods plan all along. The same messages given to Isaiah and Jeremiah back then are still relevant to Christians all around the world today.Isaiah gave the message to his people that they needed to repent from their sins, leave there evil ways behind them, and surrender their lives back to God. That same message is the â€Å"now word† for this day in time. When we take a look at today's society as a whole we can see the evil amongst us. There is so such violence, we are dealing with homosexuality at a growing rate, we have thieves are robbers, and fornication. These issues we need to turn away from and stop doing because it displeases God.If society can get it together and surrender to God the His Kingdom on earth world be powerful. But we won't do it for the same reasons Israel and Judas didn't; because they wanted to please their flesh. If we Just have a heart to serve God and live a life that is acceptable to Him things would be better. We would not be perfect but we would be constantly striving for perfection because God would then be the main focus. We must repent if we want to grow spiritually.Repentance is not so much for God but for us to acknowledge our wrongs so that we can know not to do it again. Not only has that repentance from our sins brought us back to God.

Mt459: Consumer Behavior Unit 3 Assignment

Do you think that it was a good segmentation for M&M’s to develop a new version targeting adults? In observing how M&M’s have changed over time from the addition of peanut butter and almonds to the changing of colors and sizes I think that was a great segmentation strategy to develop a new version targeting adults. The new line of M&M’s is 55 percent larger in size and they come in colors that are appealing to adults in its design (Schiffman & Kanuk, 2007).According to spokeswoman Joan Buyce of Masterfoods USA this creation is designed with adults in mind and â€Å"It broadens our portfolio so there's something for everyone† (M&M's get mega-sized, 2012, p. 1). Buyce also states that the new M&M's are available in milk chocolate as well as peanut varieties and come with an adult-oriented color scheme which includes teal, beige, gold, maroon, brown and blue-gray (M&M's get mega-sized, 2012).Due to the new line of M&M’s including aspects that target ad ults I think that it is a great segmentation strategy because appealing aspects are included in the development of the new version. Discuss three basic types of research of design (exploratory, descriptive and casual). The three basic types of designs are exploratory, descriptive and casual research. In the explorative research there is systematic and flexible and allows the researcher to investigate desires (Marketing Research Design, 2012).Explorative research is also most commonly unstructured, informal research that is undertaken to gain background information about the general nature of the research problem (Marketing Research Design, 2012). While descriptive research describes and measure marketing phenomena at a point in time (Marketing Research Design, 2012). This type of research is classified as a cross sectional study, because it is a one-time measurement, which is established in market research, outnumbering longitudinal studies and casual studies (Marketing Research Des ign, 2012).Casual research is performed to determine causality or to make â€Å"if-then† statements (Marketing Research Design, 2012, p. 1). This type of research uses one or more independent variables as well as the guidance of addition intervening variables (Marketing Research Design, 2012). The exploratory, descriptive and casual research mechanisms include different variables, features and methods that can be implemented in designs to make the outcomes both profitable and successful. Discuss use of research design for each method.Uses of exploratory, descriptive and casual research can be implemented in many different methods. Explorative research design is utilized to gain background information when the problem has not been clearly formulated (Marketing Research Design, 2012). This type of research is also used to define terms and concepts in addition to clarifying problems and hypotheses which allows the researcher to define the problem more precisely and to generate a hypothesis for the upcoming study (Marketing Research Design, 2012).Establishing research priorities is also used in exploratory research to prioritize research topics in order of importance, especially when it is faced with conducting several research studies (Marketing Research Design, 2012). While the uses of descriptive research is an experiment because it is defined as manipulating an independent variable to see how it affects a dependent variable, while also controlling the effects of additional extraneous variables (Marketing Research Design, 2012).The types of experiments that are utilized in description research are laboratory and field experiments in addition to test marketing (Marketing Research Design, 2012). Casual research is used to measure what impact a specific change will have on the existing norms and allows market researchers to predict hypothetical scenarios (Marketing Research Design, 2012). Methods that are used in casual research design are scientific and co ntrolled experimentation, or cause and effect experiments which it ensures that any difference in the outcome is due to different treatments of the variable under the study (Schiffman & Kanuk, 2007).When implementing uses of exploratory, descriptive and casual research it is important to utilize the appropriate method for the classification of research in order to receive successful results. Differentiate appropriate research design methods to use in consumer habits analysis. The appropriate research design methods are used in consumer habits analysis to understand which variables are the cause and which variables are the effect the aspects. This process is performed to determine the nature of the relationship between the causal variables, the effect to be predicted, and methods that are used (Perner, 2010).Businesses study how the consumers feel and think about options that are available about different products or brands which are consumer habits to enhance their market strategy ( Perner, 2010). The market research is necessary to ensure that we provide the desires of the customer and not our desires for the customer (Perner, 2010). There are two research design methods to analyze consumer behavior which are the primary and secondary research methods (Perner, 2010). Primary research is called research at first hand because it is the research that is designed and conducted by you (Perner, 2010).Secondary research is the research that is driven from previous information which is considered to be a by- product of primary research (Perner, 2010). This type of research involves using information that other people have already formulated (Perner, 2010). Overall, the difference between the types of research is that primary research is driven by collecting original information while secondary research is a finished product that is developed from primary research. ? The eNotes Blog A Nobel Gamble

A Nobel Gamble Place your bets! Deliberations for who will win the 2012 Nobel Prize for Literature will shortly be under way. With an impressive lineup of entries to choose from, there can be no surefire bet for who will take this coveted award. Thats because currently the odds are only at 5/1 for the win. Yes, not satisfied with the profits from gambling on sports, bookies have found a way to hedge bets on prestigious literary awards. Ladbrokes, a British betting enterprise dating back to 1886, offers odds for the 2012 Man Booker Prize and the Nobel Prize for Literature, among others. Fancy a gamble? Here are the frontrunners as they stand now: Haruki Murakami 5/1 Bob Dylan 10/1 Mo Yan 12/1 Cees Nooteboom 12/1 Ismail Kadare 14/1 Adonis 14/1 Ko Un 14/1 Murakami has a clear lead with far safer odds than his fellow nominees. His most recent work, IQ84, was translated from Japanese in 2011, and has received high acclaim from both critics and readers. Bob Dylan is slightly more out of place this high in the list. Though his chances may appear strong, theyre deceived by his popularity. Those placing bets are more likely to choose a name thats familiar to them. Gamblers loyal to him placed  Ã‚ £100-plus bets that shot him up the list, from 100/1 to 10/1, bounding past far better respected writers Tom Stoppard and Cormac McCarthy (both 16/1). Ladbrokes spokesman Alex Donohue puts Dylans chances rather bluntly, Were happy to fill the satchel in bookmaking terms as we expect the Dylan backers to part with their cash again this year. And if that doesnt seal his fate for you, perhaps Swedish nobel panel member Horace Engdahls professed hostility for parochial American writing willalongside MA Orthofers sound advice: If you know anyone who has actually generously donated money to Ladbrokes by betting on him please try to get them professional help, either from a psychiatrist or an accountant. Yes, I think that says it all; no Nobel for Dylan this year folks. If you cant put a face to the names in the 3rd and 4th spots, it might be because theyre newcomers to the Nobel scene. Mo Yan is a subversive author, once described by a TIME article as  one of the most famous, oft-banned and widely  pirated  of all  Chinese writers. Nooteboom, a Dutch writer, enters the longlist for the first time in his extensive career, having published his first novel in 1955 at the age of 22. 46 of this years 210 nominees are first-time candidates for the prize. Notable writers from further down the list include Philip Roth (16/1), Joyce Carol Oates (33/1),  Ian McEwan (50/1), Margaret Atwood (50/1), Salman Rushdie (66/1),  Ursula LeGuin (66/1), andwinner of the 2011 Man Booker Prize for The Sense of an EndingJulian Barnes (66/1). So how accurate are the odds? Last year the winner of the prize, Swedish poet  Tomas Transtrà ¶mer, was given 9/2 odds, behind the favorite to win, Adonis, a Syrian poet who still ranks high on the list this year at 14/1. Therefore, Murakami isnt a completely safe bet, but his chances are looking rather strong. Deliberations will begin in about a weeks time. The announcement date for the winner has not yet been released.
